My photography #1

  1. I dont normally view many night time photos, but i do find it interesting how the pavement seems to glow from the light of the lamps. Along with the mysterious figure walking, it gives a very ominous and eerie mood to the photograph. It does seem a bit blurry, which might be because of camera shake or a simple effect of the long exposure but it doesn't really affect the image too much.

  2. I agree with Matt's comments. I am drawn to night/low light images with bits of bright lights. I wish the figure were a little more clear but I love how their shadow mimics the shadow of the street lamp to the right. If night photography interests you i think you should really experiment with this. You can get some amazing effects with longer exposures, various types of lighting (street lights, car head lights, neon store signs, etc...) and weather conditions (rain, snow, fog...). I dont see much camera shake in this image, your signs all read pretty clear. If like things to be crisp and readable make sure you use a tripod for longer exposures, a human being can only hold a camera steady for maybe 1/30 of a second at most without much camera shake, anything longer than that should be on a tripod to avoid blur. But there are certainly times when camera shake, or intentional movement can create an interesting image. I encourage you to experiment if its something of interest.

  3. Night Photography is something I actually just started in my photo class! So far I like it a lot mainly because I like being outside at night and the way things look just seem to be more mysterious. I haven't tried too many night photos with my DSLR but i have done it with a film camera and I certainly know it will be a lot easier than having to hold a button down for 45 seconds - 1 minute without any movement. I will also look into getting a tripod. Living near Boston will allow me to do long exposures over highways to get those streaky light patterns with the cars driving by.(I've always wanted to do that). Thank You both for the feedback!
